Chinese for Young Learners - I (Grades K - 5)

Course Description: This class opens the door to Chinese language and culture through a variety of activities, such as basic everyday conversation, folk songs, handicrafts and games. Students will gain basic skills in greetings and self-introduction, and learn Pinyin– the Mandarin phonetic system, pronunciation and Chinese characters.

Spring semester courses will run from Tuesday, January 21 – Monday, May 11.

There will be no classes the week of March 15 due to Spring Break.

Classes will resume on Monday, March 23.

Chinese I

This Chinese course is designed for beginners and features practical communication and daily Chinese. The course uses subject-based teaching, with each lesson taught being centered on 2-3 topics and accompanied by the practice of communicative skills. After completing this course, students are expected to master 150 Chinese characters and understand the elementary language elements (pronunciation, Chinese characters, vocabulary, grammar), as well as broaden their understanding of certain cultural details. After completing this course students will be able to have basic oral conversations regarding their daily lives in Chinese, and will be able to use their Chinese in simple social situations.

Chinese for Young Learners - II (Grades K - 5)

Course Description: Intermediate level instruction in Mandarin Chinese speaking, listening, reading and writing; introduction to composition and reading of simple written messages in Chinese. This class covers sports, directions, hobbies, daily routines, animals, the environment and more.
