Chinese I

This Chinese course is designed for beginners and features practical communication and daily Chinese. The course uses subject-based teaching, with each lesson taught being centered on 2-3 topics and accompanied by the practice of communicative skills. After completing this course, students are expected to master 150 Chinese characters and understand the elementary language elements (pronunciation, Chinese characters, vocabulary, grammar), as well as broaden their understanding of certain cultural details. After completing this course students will be able to have basic oral conversations regarding their daily lives in Chinese, and will be able to use their Chinese in simple social situations.

Chinese II

This course is designed for American learners who have learned some basic Chinese and to help them gain a rudimentary understanding of daily conversational Chinese. This course contains 15 specially selected topics including – “Visiting”, “Ordering food", “Traveling”, etc. This course will not only meet the learners’ basic needs for daily life in China but will also provide valuable insight into Chinese culture and a deeper understanding of Chinese characters. This class will cover at least 300 characters and will prepare students to pass the HSK 2 test.

Chinese III (Part 1)

This course builds on language skills developed in Chinese 1 and 2. The course will review the basic grammar and sentence patterns of Chinese. At the same time, we will carry out topic discussions and focus on practical communication skills and help students improve their spoken Chinese. Situational discussions will cover Chinese customs, culture, and hotly debated issues. Communicative practice will allow students to learn more complicated and complex sentence patterns so that they can communicate with Chinese in specific situations. Chinese reading and writing ability will be also be improved in this class. Finally, students are expected to be able to pass the HSK 3 by enlarging their vocabulary to 600 Chinese characters and expanding their Chinese reading abilities.
