This course consists of specially selected topics including, “money matters”, “asking the way”, “making appointments and visiting”, “business negotiations”, etc. This course will not only equip the learner with the tools needed for survival in Chinese business, but will also provide valuable information for their overseas business demands.

Chinese Calligraphy

This course is designed for American learners to gain a basic understanding of Chinese Calligraphy and traditional painting. A typical class includes both lecture and practice workshop, and the practice workshop will mainly focus on Kaishu (printed) calligraphy. This course not only teaches basic techniques, but also provides a lot of valuable practice.


No Chinese language experience required.

Chinese Corner

CICSU’s Chinese Corner is a free class open to the public that focuses on improving students’ Chinese language abilities. Students come to practice their oral Chinese, to learn or improve their Chinese characters, and to experience Chinese culture. Each Chinese Corner has its own topic, such as discussions on Chinese film, classical musical instruments, or cultural clashes, etc., which further deepen the students’ understanding of Chinese language and culture. This is also a good opportunity for students that study Chinese at CSU or elsewhere to come ask questions/get help with their homework.

Chinese for Young Learners - I (Grades K - 5)

Course Description: This class opens the door to Chinese language and culture through a variety of activities, such as basic everyday conversation, folk songs, handicrafts and games. Students will gain basic skills in greetings and self-introduction, and learn Pinyin– the Mandarin phonetic system, pronunciation and Chinese characters.

Chinese for Young Learners - II (Grades K - 5)

Course Description: Intermediate level instruction in Mandarin Chinese speaking, listening, reading and writing; introduction to composition and reading of simple written messages in Chinese. This class covers sports, directions, hobbies, daily routines, animals, the environment and more.

Chinese for Young Learners - III (Grades K - 5)

Course Description: In this Chinese immersion course, students are instructed to maximize their abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese. Each lesson features sections on vocabulary, exercises, character practice, and a reading challenge. After this class, students will be able to conduct conversations related to their daily life in a clear and colorful manner.
