This moderately challenging hike is approximately 9km (5.5 miles) roundtrip, and you will gain about 150m (500 feet) elevation. The North Fork Big Thompson River Trail descends into a canyon at the start. Bridges are available at a few of the stream crossings to help. The trail leads you up the canyon along the river's side through woodland and open meadows.

Dress for possible snow - no sneakers - please wear good hiking shoes, bring snacks/lunch and water for the day.
